The short answer
Can help selected post-exercise recovery outcomes, but broad claims about immunity, metabolism, mood, or longevity exceed current evidence and regular timing after strength work may be counterproductive.

- Important limitation
- A cold-shock sensation or temporary alertness does not prove improved immunity, metabolism, mental health, or long-term resilience.
- Before deciding
- Cold shock can impair breathing and heart rhythm and creates drowning and hypothermia risks. Do not plunge alone; avoid breath-holding or hyperventilation, and seek clinical guidance with cardiovascular disease, fainting, pregnancy, or cold-sensitivity disorders.
