Liver injury associated with turmeric: ten cases from the Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network

Nine cases were hepatocellular, five required hospitalization, and one patient died. This establishes a rare but potentially severe safety signal, not its incidence.

An investigation into the effects of a curcumin extract on osteoarthritis pain of the knee

Pain scores and some function measures improved more with the tested extract, while other performance tests did not. The result is short-term and product-specific.

Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of curcuminoid-piperine combination in metabolic syndrome

Several biomarkers improved, but the trial did not test symptoms, disease events, or longevity; biomarker changes alone do not establish a clinical benefit.

Influence of piperine on the pharmacokinetics of curcumin in human volunteers

Piperine markedly increased short-term curcumin exposure. This pharmacokinetic result does not prove greater clinical benefit and makes piperine-containing formulations non-equivalent to plain curcumin.
