Krill Oil for Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Pain improved substantially in both groups, with virtually no between-group difference (-0.3 points; 95% CI -6.9 to 6.4). Adverse-event rates were similar, and the trial does not support krill oil for knee pain in this population.

Krill oil improved osteoarthritic knee pain in adults with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis

Pain, stiffness, and function changes modestly favored krill oil, but the pain difference was only 5.18 points on a 0–100 scale and NSAID use, lipids, and inflammatory markers did not differ. A later larger trial in a more symptomatic population was null.

Similar EPA and DHA plasma levels achieved with fish oil or krill oil in a randomized double-blind bioavailability study

Matched EPA+DHA doses produced no significant differences in plasma or red-cell levels across fish-oil and krill-oil forms. This does not support a reliable long-term bioavailability advantage for krill oil.

Krill oil supplementation lowers serum triglycerides without increasing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol

After pooling all four doses, krill oil produced a calculated 10.2% triglyceride reduction versus placebo without raising LDL. Pooling erased the randomized dose groups because of high within-person variability, so the study does not identify an effective dose or prove clinical-event benefit.
