An oat beta-glucan beverage reduces LDL cholesterol in adults with borderline high cholesterol
LDL fell by 0.207 mmol/L more than control, approximately 6%; HDL, triglycerides, glucose, and insulin did not differ. Both groups had a transient increase in gastrointestinal symptoms, and the short surrogate trial did not test cardiovascular events.

The effect of oat beta-glucan on LDL cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol and apoB
LDL fell by 0.19 mmol/L, non-HDL by 0.20 mmol/L, and apoB by 0.03 g/L. Heterogeneity was considerable and clinical cardiovascular events were not measured, so the result supports modest lipid lowering rather than proven event prevention.
